SFPN Seminar Series: Food Business Finance Essentials
A Six-Session Seminar beginning on June 14th, 2018
FREE! But you have to apply. Application deadline is June 6th.
More than ever, small food producers are entering the market with innovative products and finding their way into consumer shopping carts by creating their own distribution channels, using e-commerce, or aligning with multi-market grocery chains for broad distribution. With so many growth opportunities to choose from, how does a business owner know which direction might be best suited for the company?
To start, clean financial reports provide hard data insights that can point them in the right direction. Clean financials are the result of an organized system, good data entry (bookkeeping) and easy-to-read reports that enable consistent analysis. This analysis helps business to think about catalytic growth projects, make informed decisions, access capital and manage costs in an increasingly competitive economy.
To help Evergreen’s SFPN members build financial acumen, our team from Skopos and Bernoulli Finance will lead a six-part course with the goal of helping small food producers tell their own financial story and craft growth strategies with good financial data.
This series is specifically designed to have participants walk away with several hard and fast financial skills in-hand. The seminar will focus on the following topics:
Business Financial Statements
Projections, Assumptions and Cash Flow Budget
Working Capital and Cash Conversion Cycle
Food Costing and Inventory Management
Full syllabus and facilitator bios are available here.
The course is geared towards companies that have moved past the start-up phase. It is strongly suggested that your books be in order and decipherable (at least to you) to get the most out of this seminar. An understanding of basic bookkeeping concepts and willingness to put in the work is also important. Please let me know if you have any questions about the course’s suitability for your business.
Participation is free, but seats are limited, so admission is competitive. To apply, please complete the application found here no later than June 6, 2018.
Feel free to contact Natalie Vichnevksy at with any questions.
