HR II Seminar Series: Beyond the Employee Handbook + Coping with COVID-19

Join us in the second of our series of human resource training seminars designed to help businesses like yours build your capacity to manage your most precious resource – your staff! Whether you have one employee, ten, or a hundred, personnel issues can make a big difference to your bottom line. Having policies in place before you face any action is an incredibly important asset when managing your employees. Knowing how to properly communicate with your staff is particularly important during difficult times when your business may be forced to make tough decisions.

Our ‘initial’ HR seminar series taught by Rania V. Sedhom, managing partner at Sedhom Law Group, PLLC., covers the components of a personnel handbook. This ‘second installment’ seminar will focus on topics beyong the handbook- like handling internal complaints, investigations of sexual harassment and discrimination, and hiring and firing. The course will provide an in depth look at the legal components of these and other issues, as well as valuable time with an attorney to discuss specific human resource and legal compliance matters as are germane to the course material. In addition, we are adding some time to the first class to address HR issues related to the current COVID-19 crisis.

Prerequisites: You are not required to have attended the first human resource seminar to be able to take this course. However, you should have a basic knowledge of employment laws as they pertain to small businesses in NY. The first day recap will touch on topics needed for the remainder of the workshop but it will not cover FSLA/wage and hour rules, including vacation pay, sick pay, and other leave laws. All topics previously covered (see first course description here) will be assumed known.

This is a measure to validate a company’s business category. A list of eligible NAICS Codes can be found here.
