Human Resources II: Beyond the Employee Handbook
Evergreen will be hosting a new human resource training workshop to help businesses like yours build your capacity to manage your most precious resource – your staff! Whether you have one employee, ten, or a hundred, personnel issues can make a big difference to your bottom line. Having policies in place before you face any action is an incredibly important asset when managing your employees.
Our first HR seminar series taught by Rania V. Sedhom, managing partner at Sedhom Law Group, PLLC., covered the components of a personnel handbook. It was designed so that participants ended the course with the framework of a complete human resource manual for their company, fully vetted by a licensed attorney. Given how popular and helpful this course was, we have put together a new workshop to help you build on that knowledge and cover other important human resource topics, as well as address any unique issues faced by course participants.
This new edition is a free course that will run six weeks, once again taught by Rania. She will focus on topics like handling internal complaints, investigations of sexual harassment and discrimination, and hiring and firing. The course will provide an in depth look at the legal components of these and other issues, as well as valuable time with an attorney to discuss specific human resource and legal compliance matters as are germane to the course material. For a full overview of the six sessions, please see the course description (NB: this syllabus is an outline- depending on the final composition of the class, modules may be altered to better fit the needs of the attendees).
Prerequisites: You are not required to have attended the first human resource seminar to be able to take this course. However, you should have a basic knowledge of employment laws as they pertain to small business in NY. The first day recap will only discuss topics needed for the remainder of the workshop. It will not cover FSLA/wage and hour rules, including vacation pay, sick pay, and other leave laws. All topics previously covered (first course description here) will be assumed known.
