SUMMARY:Human Resources Seminar Series: Beyond the Employee Handbook - Session Three
DESCRIPTION:This seminar is geared towards helping businesses like yours build their capacity to manage their most precious resource–your staff!  \nWhether you are just thinking about hiring\, have one employee\, ten\, or a hundred\, personnel issues can make a big difference to your company culture and your bottom line! Having policies in place before you face any action is an incredibly important asset when managing your employees and essential for creating a productive work environment. This seminar covers hands-on topics beyond the employee handbook like handling internal complaints\, investigations of sexual harassment and discrimination\, and hiring and firing.  \nThe course will run for five sessions over six weeks and will provide an in-depth look at the legal components of these and other issues\, as well as valuable time with an attorney to discuss specific human resource and legal compliance matters as are germane to the course material. The course work will be augmented by two hours of one-on-one time with an attorney from Sedhom Law Group for each business participating in the course.  \nWho Should Apply / Prerequisites: \nBusiness owners (prioritized) or relevant staff who have the capacity to make human resources policy decisions for the business. Participants are not required to have completed the first human resources seminar to be able to take this course. However\, a basic knowledge of employment laws as they pertain to small businesses in New York City will be helpful. The first session will provide an overview of topics needed for the remainder of the course but it will not cover everything presented in the Employee Manual seminar such as FSLA/wage and hour rules\, including vacation pay\, sick pay\, and other leave laws. This seminar is interactive.
