K Bridge Construction Update – One Way Traffic Under BQE Viaduct Through End of 2016
MORGAN AVENUE – NO SOUTHBOUND TRAFFIC
VANDERVOORT AVENUE – NO NORTHBOUND TRAFFIC
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has awarded a $555 million contract to construct Phase 1 of the new Kosciuszko Bridge. As part of this work, the contractor
is: 1) reconstructing Morgan Avenue between eastbound and westbound Meeker Avenue underthe BQE viaduct and 2) realigning Vandervoort Avenue between eastbound and westbound Meeker Avenue under the BQE viaduct. To accomplish this, on or about June 20th (weather permitting), NYSDOT will implement one-way traffic patterns on both streets as indicated above. During this time, please note the following detours:
To access southbound Morgan Avenue, motorists on westbound Meeker Avenue should use the following detour:
1) make a left turn onto Kingsland Avenue;
2) make a left turn from Kingsland Avenue onto Lombardy Street; and finally
3) make a right turn onto southbound Morgan Avenue
To access westbound Meeker Avenue, motorists on northbound Vandervoort Avenue should use the following detour:
1) make a left turn onto Maspeth Avenue;
2) make a right turn from Maspeth Avenue onto Morgan Avenue; and finally
3) make a left turn onto WB Meeker Avenue
Pedestrian access will be provided by maintaining a pedestrian sidewalk at either Vandervoort or Morgan Avenue at all times. Traffic flow will be facilitated by means of a temporary traffic signal that has been installed at Vandervoort Avenue and Lombardy Street.
