Trees in the IBZ

September 8 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Join Newtown Creek Alliance and Trees New York to learn about and care for the street trees in the East Williamsburg part of the North Brooklyn Industrial Business Zone (IBZ)!

The event includes a walking tour led by Samuel A. Bishop II, Director of Education and Arborist at Trees New York. The tour will highlight the lack of trees in the IBZ, suitable locations for street trees, and challenges faced by street trees in an industrial area. Following the tour, participants will tend to street trees on Morgan Ave by performing tree bed maintenance, which includes trash and weed removal, soil amendment, and mulching. There will also be a small pruning demonstration by Sam to showcase the benefits of proper care for street trees by licensed Citizen Pruners.

This event is run in partnership with Trees New York, Evergreen Exchange, and the offices of Senator Julia Salazar and Council member Jennifer Gutierrez. A special thank you to The Hudson River Foundation and the New York-New Jersey Harbor & Estuary Program for funding these events.
