Untamed Flowers
Untamed Flowers is making a significant impact in New York City by blending biodiversity with urban spaces to promote sustainability. Located on a 60,000 square-foot rooftop farm in North Brooklyn, the farm cultivates a mix of native and non-native flowers and grasses that not only beautify the city but also support local ecosystems. The flowers on this rooftop oasis contribute to environmental well-being by supporting pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and birds.
Beyond promoting biodiversity, Untamed Flowers plays a crucial role in environmental conservation. The greenroof captures thousands of gallons of stormwater annually, helping to alleviate combined sewage overflow, and filters heavy metals from the air. Additionally, the rooftop farm reduces energy consumption, cools the surrounding environment, and provides much-needed natural habitat for wildlife.
In addition to the diverse array of native plants, Untamed Flowers grows bulbs like tulips, zinnias, cosmos, and poppies. These beautiful flowers are available for events, can be purchased via subscription, and are sold at the Greenpoint CSA and J.J. Byrne Farmer’s Market in Park Slope.
By reimagining urban spaces with flowers and plants, Untamed Flowers is contributing to a greener, more sustainable city for both its human residents and the natural world.
